It is not always easy to find appropriate competition pieces for young cellists. It is even more difficult if the focus is on works after 1980. The publication of this piece is therefore very welcome. Walter Ernst Haberl, a successful writer for guitar, wrote Latin for Alex especially for the Austrian Youth Music Competition, Prima la Musica. This music is demanding, requiring a good, modern technique and presents an attractive challenge to young string players in their second to third years.
