Description

The MISSA BREVIS IN B-FLAT MAJOR, K. 275/272B, is an economical, yet intimate treatment of the Latin text by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The work is further condensed by the fact that it requires different texts to be sung simultaneously. It places a stronger emphasis on the solo singers than in the D Major Mass, K. 194, to which it is sometimes compared. The earliest known performance took place on December 21, 1777, in the year that it was probably composed. Among the soloists, the castrato Francesco Ceccarelli received praise for his performance. The autograph score has not survived. Written originally for just 2 violins and contrabass in the string section, this edition also includes a viola part (not indicated in the score) and an extra contrabass part should the inclusion of a cellist be desired. Instrumentation: Org: Str (2.2.1.1.1 in set): Solo SATB. Mx Chor. Vocal score available separately from LudwigMasters (W727891).
