Description
Highly regarded in his lifetime for his skill at writing chamber works, the prolific French composer Louis Thodore Gouvy (1819-1898) fell into posthumous obscurity. He often preferred living in Germany, where he felt that his music had more recognition. His oeuvre is gradually being rediscovered, including the Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 71. Completed in 1879, the work is scored for flute, oboe, two clarinets, two bassoons, and two horns. The Leipzig publisher Carl Kistner published it three years later. It has four movements: 1. Introduction 2. Danse sudoise 3. Romance 4. Rondo. Reprint edition.
