Description

The fact that Franz Krommer’ s works have fallen into oblivion for such a long time is probably because music historiography has taken the genius cult” of the 19th century as a model. The rediscovery of his works gives us compositions combining classical forms with catchy folkloric expression; with their wit, colour and peculiar harmonies they feature a unique kind of personality.” (from the editor’s preface). Krommer’s legacy were 18 flute quartets in all, which for the biggest part were printed by André in Offenbach. The new edition presented here is based on a first edition of this publishing company. Reference is given whenever modifications and additions have been made, but basically the score corresponds to the original text.
