Description
Andr Jolivet (1905-1974) was a French composer particularly devoted to French culture and musical thought. Influenced variously by Arnold Schoenberg and Edgard Varse, and a founder of the group La jeune France along with Olivier Messiaen, Jean-Yves Daniel-Lesur, and Yves Baudrier, Jolivet sought to “give back to music its original, ancient meaning, when it was the magical, incantatory expression of the religious beliefs of human groups.” This reprint edition of Serenade for Wind Quintet and Principal Oboe was composed in 1945. A version for just oboe and piano (M305691) is also available from the publisher. Movements: I. Cantilne. Moderato, II. Caprice. Scherzando, III. Intermde. Moderato, IV. Marche Burlesque. Allegro.
