Description
Returning to the 4-movement symphonic form, Alexander Glazunov (1865-1936) completed his SYMPHONY No. 5 in B-flat major, Op. 55, in 1895. He premiered the work at the Hall of the Nobility in St. Petersburg on November 17th of the following year, conducting the RMS Orchestra. It contains elements of thematic transformation and is often called the “Heroic” due to the broad, Wagnerian development of its themes. The symphony inspired young composer Igor Stravinsky to write his Symphony in Eb. Instrumentation: 3(3rd d.Picc).2.3(3rd d.BCl).2: 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(4): Hp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
