Description
Composed in 1943, this three-movement work is the first piano sonata Eisler had written since his Op. 1. It is also his last large-scale work for piano. Here he transforms the expressive repertoire of the Viennese School in a distinctive way, his own style taking precedence over Schoenberg’s influence. This new edition of the Sonata, jointly commissioned by the International Hanns Eisler Society and C. F. Peters, replaces the 1960 first edition and for the first time makes the work available in the form originally intended by the composer.
