Description
… through the mirror into a new light… is not a showy virtouso piece for the flute. Rather, a kind of inner virtuosity is needed here, as the playing techniques used in this piece demand great tonal discipline the performers. The rhythm of the glissandos have to be maintained exactly: the fully notated glissando steps must not become “blurred” , but have to be played slightly pronounced. Even between the phrasing slurs, the musical tension is supposed to stay high. The fingerings were in most cases chosen deliberately, so as to define the colour of the respective sound. The quarter tones to be sung have to be intoned with accuracy.
